POSITION: SPECIAL EDUCTION TRAINING MANAGER
DESCRIPTION
This is professional work involving the need for excellent written, oral and listening skills. Supervision for this position is received from the State Director of Special Education. Work in this class requires a high degree of collaboration and communication with management of all levels, stakeholders and off island consultants. A fair amount of independent judgment is expected. Person selected must be very well organized, able to multi-task and develop and maintain records on the effectiveness of training activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)
- Develop a needs assessment process and create an instructional design process with appropriate delivery methods and post training evaluations;
- Recommend solutions for performance issues and potential areas of training;
- Assist State Director with designing, developing, and implementing training programs based on analysis;
- Arrange Conferences, professional development and technical assistance activities;
- Work with the department’s Office of Legal Counsel and office accountant in preparing training budget;
- Develop and organize training manuals, multimedia visual aids and other educational materials;
- Work collaboratively with other staff members;
- Understanding of Special Education services and underlying principles of supporting effective instruction;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the competitive bidding process when conducting business with a governmental agency;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (proficiency in excel and publisher);
- Ability to manage time and meet deadlines;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels and all persons contacted during the course of work;
- Ability to be proactive, self-motivated, and self-directed;
- Ability to encourage and motivate others;
- Ability to demonstrate practical experience in technical and non-technical training;
- Excellent presentation and public-speaking skills;
- Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills.
- Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment in carrying out functions of the position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in Special Education, English, Journalism or a related field and three (3) years of progressively independent work where communication and collaboration were the primary aspects of the employment; or
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Journalism or a related field and five (5) years of progressively independent work where communication and collaboration were primary aspects of the employment.
