DESCRIPTION
This is professional work involving the administering, scoring and interpreting of psychological tests to groups and individual students. Supervision for this position is received from the Director. Work in this class involves major responsibility for developing in-service training programs for teachers who administer group tests. Work involves interpretation of tests for diagnostic and remedial purposes and the initiation of surveys, statistical reports and other studies. This employee is given considerable latitude in exercising professional skills and independent judgment in the performance of work.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)
- Selects, administers, scores and interprets psychological test for students with learning and emotional problems;
- Identifies gifted children and suggests accelerated programs for such children;
- Prepares case histories and reports outlining diagnostic results of the tests as a basis for planning the type of treatment;
- Plans and supervises in-service training programs for teachers to meet the needs of students;
- Provides to school personnel, parents and certain community agencies clinical and diagnostic information regarding children learning and emotional problems;
- Prepares and submits required reports to the Director;
- Participates in case conferences and research programs;
- Participates in the development and administration of programs in the department;
- Prepares and maintains comprehensive case records on each client in accordance with local and federal standards;
- Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of psychometrics;
- Knowledge of educational psychology;
- Knowledge of the analysis and treatment of educational and behavioral problems;
- Knowledge of the resources and policies of community mental health;
- Ability to administer, score and interpret psychological examinations;
- Ability to develop and implement treatment plans;
- Participates in the development and administration of programs in the department;
- Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment in carrying out functions of the position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in School Psychology, including major preparation in educational or applied psychology and two (2) years of experience as a school psychologist or related field.
